Notation

The squares on the reversi board which is reverred using an unique ID is called notation. The main purpose of notation is to record the game and some discussion about the strategy after the game end. 

Notation can also be use for other people to know and to learn the gameplay strategy and improve their own skill. Furthermore, the player can learn the move that make him/her win or lose the game.

Starting from the upper left column to the right is letter A to H and from upper row to the bottom is number 1 to 8.

The combination of these letters and numbers are referred to as the notation of the square, starting from square a1 at the top left of the board until square h8 at the bottom right of the board. 




Certain significant square are given special name:

  1. Corners are a1, a8, h1 and h8 square.
  2. X-Square are squares diagonally adjacent to the corner square
  3. C-Square are squares adjacent to corner.
  4. A-Square are a3, a6, c1, f1, h3, h6, c8 and f8.
  5. B-Square are a4, a5, d1, e1, h4, h5, d8 and e8.
  6. 4 square in the middle of the board called centre
  7. 4 side of the board named as north, south, east and west. a south-east corner refered to h8 square
