Basic Corner and Position

The corner is very important, that every player will try to get one. Putting a new disc at each turn may possible be a stepping stone for the opponent to get the corner. When this happens, each player must carefully consider the next move to make.

According to the rules of the game, it is obvious that square adjacent to the corner is bad because it may give your opponent the chance to have the corner, and that is C square and X square. Taking the X square early in the game is obviously like giving up the corner to the opponent.

Picture 5.1

Picture 5.1 shows static value from a reversi program. Fortunately reversi is much more deeper than a static evaluation and that's what make the game very interesting.
Those static value is used as a basic evaluation determining which move to take if there is an equal value of the square using another method of evaluation.
